What to expect from Autism & ADHD Assessments
Adult Autism Assessments:
For an Autism assessment, we’ll meet 5 times for about an hour each time. We’ll review self-report measures, your mental health & relationship history, your sensory experiences, your social experiences, and your executive functioning. Our last meeting will be a summary and feedback meeting, in which we’ll review the results and discuss next steps.
One of the tools I use during this process is the MIGDAS interview, a strengths-based and affirming interview.
Adult ADHD Assessments:
For an ADHD assessment, we’ll meet 2 times for about an hour each time. We’ll review self-report measures and complete an interview focused on ADHD symptoms. Our last meeting will be a summary and feedback meeting, in which we’ll review the results and discuss next steps.
One of the tools I use during this process is the BAARS IV Assessment (both self & other), which involves both you filling out forms and someone from your life filling out forms related to your symptoms. This helps us identify symptoms from both childhood and adulthood. The tools I use will also help clarify which type of ADHD you may have.
My Approach to Adult Autism & ADHD Assessments:
As a neurodivergent affirming practitioner, I celebrate brain diversity. I do not view autism and ADHD as disorders, deficits, or shortcomings.
However, I understand that living in a neurotypical world as an Autistic person or ADHDer can come with many challenges.
I offer an affirming diagnosis process that honors these challenges and your strengths.

A Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist is a fully licensed clinician with a Master’s degree. An LMFT is able to diagnose Autism and ADHD; however, assessments from LMFT’s are not adequate for state disability services and potentially some other formal accommodations. Please check with your workplace or school to determine if a diagnosis by an LMFT is adequate. Diagnosis from LMFT’s may be best for those seeking clarity around a diagnosis for the purpose of self-understanding.
